Larry Whittington, Figurative Artist
" Humankind communicates in different ways. I have chosen mine through art. Where some tell a short story through their art, I have written a novel. There are no
limits to my creativity: for everything has sarcastic beauty. To make the ugly beautiful, to make the unusual the ordinary, to make the mundane exciting, that is what I
achieve with my art. My perception of reality is exposed in my art. What I see may not be what you see. But in the end, the same conclusion can be rendered."
Continuing with art through deployments,
particularly painting armor art for his
helicopter squadron in Iraq, Larry was
persistent in his desire to make creating art
his life. During that time, Larry continued to
paint and his work is in various homes in
California, West Virginia, North Carolina and
Pennsylvania.
Larry takes these experiences and conveys
them through his art. He sees this time as
an opportunity for the world to see his art.
His art catches the eye and makes the
viewer question their own perceptions of
reality. Larry is looking forward to continuing
his artistic career and creating art of his
various concepts from the past 10 years.
Currently, Larry is in the juried international
art exhibition “Heat: The Next Tortured
Genius II” held at Monkdogz Urban Art
Gallery in New York, NY.
Born and raised in West Virginia, Larry Whittington
has been drawing and painting since he can recall.
Having recently been honorably discharged from the
United States Marine Corps in March 2007, Larry has
been able to devote time to his art. Having been
labeled with a low IQ, he struggled through school,
saved by the gifted art classes, only to be diagnosed
with dyslexia at age 19. While working as a
commercial printer, Larry was laid off. Being virtually
homeless, he joined the Marine Corps at 23. Serving
ten years, he participated in numerous deployments
including Afghanistan and Iraq.
